Bridges

A bridge is a dental restoration that is used to fill in the gap left by two or more missing teeth. Since unusual stresses are placed on the gums and tissues when teeth are missing, it is important to fill this void with a dental bridge.

What kinds of bridges exist?

There are two kinds of bridges – fixed and removable. A fixed bridge replaces missing teeth and is permanently adhered to the anchoring teeth on either side of the missing tooth. Fixed bridges can only be removed by a dental professional. Removable bridges use metal clasps to adhere the bridge to the adjoining teeth. Removable bridges can be removed and cleaned, as needed. Fixed bridges offer more stability than their removable counterparts, as there is no room for mobility.

How do I care for my bridge?

With a strict regimen of brushing and flossing you will keep the bridge and surrounding teeth clean and rid of damage-causing bacteria. This is of critical importance as the bridge relies on the neighboring teeth for support.
